[Public-List] Electric Drive

Hello Richard 
Last night I read through your refitting into the blue blog. I'd love to read/see more about your boat,  the electric engine,  the composting head and more. How it is set up,  your decision making process,  how happy you've been with your choices in the years since the refit,  etc. 

We recently purchased #456, with the intention of refitting for extended cruising. She came to us with no engine and a port-a-potty,  so we will kind of be starting from scratch.  I like the idea of the composting head and the electric engine.  I also want to upgrade the galley to include a gimballed stove with oven,  a cabin heater,  a shower in the head and probably a water maker and water heater. Have you installed or considered any of those systems? 

The only other boat we have owned,  or spent any time aboard is a lightweight trailer weekender,  a MacGregor Venture 25. We have zero experience with systems found on larger boats like the A30, so our refit plans are based purely on dreams and speculation.  We would love to hear from someone who has experienced both sides of the coin.

We have an electric drive on 609 Into The Blue. We absolutely love it. We
have the Electric Yacht 100ibl.
This is actually smaller than the recommended system for our displacement
but it works great. On the advice of the electric forum we went to a 3
blade prop.
Running a 3 blade 13 by 12 we can do 3.3 knots with only 16 amp draw at 48
volt system. 200 amp hours gives us 5 hours run to 50% discharge. The
current draw goes up against current. Now that we are day sailing it is
really nice to be able to start and end trips with no noise and vibration.
The drawback is range if you are in a hurry but we extended that with a
Honda generator when coming up the St.Lawrence in 2013.
Willing to answer any questions you may have. Would never go back to a
diesel.
