[Public-List] I'm Looking to buy Alberg 30!

I had to laugh at the sales tax issue...
A few years ago the RCN was holding a 'Battle of the Atlantic*' mess dinner
and the venue was a nearby yacht club. I arrived early, in uniform of
course, so wandered over to the yard where yachts were still up ashore. I
thought I'd chat with friends before going inside for the dinner.
A funny thing happened. I'd see people working on their boats from a
distance, but when I got to them, they'd be gone. This happened several
times till I cornered my friend Henry who first looked quite furtive, then
relaxed when he looked into my face. He told me word had gone around that
some sort of government inspector in uniform was on the loose. People
thought I was looking for paperwork.... So they were all shuffling around
avoiding me. We laughed until our faces hurt.
Gord #426 Surprise
* commemorating the Battle of the Atlantic is for our service what Trafalgar
is to the Brits. There is a wonderful story of one of our officers at a
Royal Navy event during the war where he was teased about our service being
a young one without traditions of it's own. The Canadian, who wrote in his
autobiography this was the only time in his life he came up with the right
thing to say replied "yes, you've got your Trafalgar, but we're fighting and
winning our Trafalgar right now in the Atlantic!" what a great line...
