Hum that's interesting! I had thought of drilling a 1/2 hole lower in the casting so a toggle would be long enough to reach the pin (filed to thickness) but i was afraid to weaken the whole masthead casting. Never thought to reinforce with plates! You guys are full of brigtht ideas! I'll have to ponder on all these options!

On reverie US21 there was a crack under the pin hole for the forestay I thru
bolted two aluminum plates both sides of the casting, 3/8" thick cut to shape
with 5/16" bolts and used two 1/2" shoulder bolts instead of pins. A 1/2" toggle
was fitted with a little bit of hand file work.I was not worried about the loss
of metal because much more was added with the plates.The crack was there I
believe from not being toggled due to forestay sag. Hi-mod fittings are very
easy to work with.
