I think you would still need a cover on the outside of the hull. One year while leaving Baltimore harbor the engine started to overheat. I turned the engine off which released the plastic bag that got sucked onto the engine intake. If I did not have a strainer on the intake, the bag would have sucked into the hose.


Another time, Trish flushed the toilet and a small 8" eel was sucked up and ended up swimming around in the toilet. There is no strainer on the 1/2" head intake. Naturally, I left the helm and grabbed a plastic cup, and scooped the little guy out and overboard.


Ya just never know what's going to happen next!

Is it one of the ARG series ? http://www.groco.net/00-strrns/arg.htm
What size did you choose ?
Stayed with the original 1/2" or increased size of thruhull and strainer ?
The ARG series are beefy items.
The 1/2" and 3/4" pipe size strainers are about 6.5" high, 4.5" wide and
5.5" deep.
Do you have a photo of where you mounted it by chance ?
