About a decade ago, when helping a friend deliver his C&C 30 from
Toronto to Boston (he'd recently moved), we probably lost a day on the
Hudson River from the number of times that he noticed the engine was
overheating, stopped it, and went down below to pull yet another plastic
bag out of the strainer in the engine compartment before we could
continue on our way.

After that trip, I really appreciated both that the A30 engine intake
through-hull is so much farther below the water line than the C&C 30's,
and that it has a strainer on it.

P.S. If ever planning a passage down the Hudson River from Albany to
NYC, plan to arrive at Albany on a day when the tides look timed about
right for you to sail in both of them (usually right around the
quarters); we didn't, and had the same lousy timing on the tidal
currents all the way down.
