I did not bed mine, works fine. I too can use a hose to blast gunk out, and
I don't get wet from water on the decks either.

You might also consider teak alternatives.  In New England, good teak in
good dimensions is very hard to find, and expensive.  African Mahogany,
Sapele, Spanish Cedar and others seem to be more available at much better
quality.
