[Public-List] Cockpit drain fittings--bigger could be better

True (&recent) story.

Couple weeks ago, we unexpectedly got 8" of rain in 12 hours. Really
only 7.96". Anyway, there is an O'day 23, which has a single small
scupper drain in a little sump at the back of the cockpit. The
companionway opening is only 8" - 10" above the cockpit sole. So, the
scupper clogged, the cockpit filled & started overflowing into the cabin
below. Quick action by the dock master & another boat owner were all
that kept it from sinking in the slip. It was a fairly close thing. So
it doesn't have to be a big wave offshore for this to be an issue, or
even a tropical storm event.

And yes, I am the owner of the O'day.
