I have enjoyed the email list immensely for over ten years now. And George has done a wonderful job keeping it going far longer than I have been signed up.
Unfortunately the software is very very old technology. There is much more versatile forum software available that does everything people have discussed - combine posting images all Facebook, with video, and email discussions. We just haven't ungraded to the new technology. So we are not able to have thoughtful discussions based on images and text. And maintenance and sailing logs are beyond are capability.
These days forum software does allow both media types to be self posted - resulting in the best of both worlds- excellent web site documentation and robust individual posting and discussion capability, all directly by members of the Alberg community.
In fact forum software can be configured to allow moderators to start thematic threads- such as the topical pages on the A30 web site, and discussion threads, AND boat logs. Boat logs can be build logs or crushing/racing logs to record the history of the vessel and the crew. It's up to each boat owner to contribute or not. The real advantage of the modern forum software is that one can follow the adventures of a certain boat or construction practice with no onerous time commitment from a web administrator - except checking now and then to insure the content is appropriate and following the rules. All the rest of the work is done by the community members - posting updates to their individual stories, AND replying to the questions and commentary of others. Just like we do now - except in a much more visual and photo oriented manner. Much better, more interactive, and extremely better at documenting threads than Facebook.
For example, I've taken up my old hobby of miniature railroading and machining again, in my doldering old retirement years. I post my various misadventures with 12" gauge steam engines and questions about lathe and mill work to this forum below.- and can readily post images and type in words to describe what I want to know - or have discovered about the locomotives I,have been researching. Other people offer advice and commentary - which is extremely helpful! Here is an example of what you can do with the forum thread for a build log:

There are around 10,000 subscribers to the Chaski home machinist forum site, one active volunteer moderator, and a couple of volunteer co-moderators.
Imagine what kind of record and history and story line we build up for every Alberg in the fleet - wherever in the world the boats are- if something like this was available for Albergers to use!
The problem? It takes some dedicated time and effort and a hosting service - not a trivial effort BTW - to install and operate the new software. And someone must keep up with updates - or eventually you risk loosing the ability to publish content as IT systems change. Then you are out of business and have lost your searchable history.
Personally I wish we had something like the Chasiki forum to record the stories and adventures of the Albergers fleet. But I recognize the reality that implementing the new software is challenging and requires time and resources that many of us do not have. Still, over time this would be a wonderful tool to have available.
