[Public-List] Bulkheads

I have found that the dimples in the sides of the hull at the forward lowers
in the liner boats (which is quite noticeable when you sight down the cove
stripe), is due to the fact that the shelves in the forward cabin were not
glassed to the hull (like they were in the older boats), rather they were
pop-riveted to a horizontal flange. I removed my forward shelves in a
collision with another Alberg so I had to reinstall them. I did so by
relieving the tension on the forward lowers and then pushed the hull back
out to the original position and then glassed in the forward shelves. These
are secondary structural members and help to support the knees and the hull.

Chip,

If you look at most newer boats, there are dimples in the topsides where
the knees are attached. This is due to the knees not being flush with
the underside of the deck, and as the chainplate pulls the knee up, it
rotates slightly and pulls the hull inwards.

I think it would be best if the knee were flush with the underside of
the deck. I've thought about inserting shims, but have never done so.
