FWIW I had the toe rail replaced on my preliner boat a few years ago and I
am pretty surethe yard did not have to steam bend it into position. The
bendis gradual enough to just pull it into position. One scarfed joint on
each side.

They did a very nice job, the cost was within shouting distance of what the
whole boat cost in 1967. Fitting the taffrail piece was very labor
intensive, so they said.
