[Public-List] Fuel tank

The reason that I replaced the original tank under the sole was because I was concerned about a 25 year old tank leaking gasoline into the bilge, and because it was very difficult to get to the packing glands for the shaft and the rudder.
I decided to install two tanks, one in the forward end of each cockpit locker. This way I could use one tank normally, and two tanks when on extended cruises.
A place in Florida custom made the tanks for me of aluminum, 17 gallons each. As mounted, they hardly reduce the volume of locker space for other things.
When I replaced my Atomic 4 with a Beta diesel last year, I had the tanks flushed out, and fuel return lines installed. I have a single 6-way valve which switches the tanks and their return lines simultaneously, so there is no complication there. All in all, I am very satisfied with the arrangement. Jay Davenport

Greg,

I replaced my tank many years (maybe 30 years) ago with an 18 gallon saddle
tank in the starboard sail locker. The tank is 36x18x7 and sits on the
shelf in the locker. You would hardly know it's there. I retro-fitted 18
other Alberta with this same tank replacement. It works fine. A concern was
weight on the outboard side, but it is balanced by the ice box. Jay
Davenport installed 2 tanks, one on each side. It allows for access to the
stuffing box and takes weight out of the rear of the boat.
