[Public-List] Feathering Propeller

Skeep,

In all of the years I have owned an Alberg 30 and the hundreds of boats I
have inspected, I have never seen a feathering or folding prop on an Alberg
30. This is due partly because they are not class legal for one-design
racing, but also because of the cost and performance. What most boats have
are 13x7 2-bladed props (with an Atomic 4) and owners will mark the shaft
when the prop is vertical, thus hiding the prop behind the keel while
sailing, and getting about the same effect as the more expensive feathering
prop. For cruisers, a 3-blade prop is the best choice, since you always have
1+ blades cutting thru the water and that greatly adds to more power, less
vibration and prop noise, but the big plus is more control when backing into
a slip.

Subject: [Public-List] Feathering Propeller

The last post I saw on the thread for this was 2002. Perhaps I have not
queried best, but I am seeking input from veteran Albergers who might
weigh-in on their feathering props and point me in the direction that I can
find one that might not cost as much as the set of runflats on my wife's BMW
Z4 ragtop. I am aquainted with the various top notch productions on this as
anyone can see from the internet (uggh)...have you any creative thoughts for
me, the Alberger freshman class, on replacing the beat-up bronze thing stuck
on my shaft below the waterline?
Skeep #614 nearly ready to splash...
