My experience was that a lot of the smell came from the hoses even though they were the correct type and looked in good shape.  The pump on the head was cracked as well so a year ago I ripped it all out and installed an AIRHEAD.  So far I am very pleased with it.   The boat has never smelled so good.

Andrew,

I would advise against that. The water tank is fiberglass. Fiberglass
absorbs liquids and allows them to eventually pass through. I think
you'll be courting a smell problem that won't go away.
