[Public-List] shaft zinc

Went to replace the zinc on the end of the shaft today and lo and
behold the old zinc and the socket head screw supposed to hold it were
gone. It's been difficult to attach the thing, especially under water,
for several years. Now it appears the threads (1/4 - 20?) are completely
stripped. I know of no way to fix that without hauling out, which is not
on the schedule until fall.

There was no apparent corrosion on the prop

My current solution is to drop a zinc on a piece of wire overboard
and attach the other end to the engine somewhere. Probably will use this
system only at my dock, as it probably would be a nuisance under way. I
know of nowhere to attach it more permanently.

My first idea would be to drill out the hole and tap it to a larger
thread, but do not want to go to 5/16 if I can help it. Next idea is to
hammer in a piece of brass rod (bronze??) or a bronze bolt and drill and
tap that back to 1/4 - 20.

Anyone had this problem & how did you solve it?
