Here's an easy question--When checking or changing transmission oil (Hurth
trans. on my M3-20B Universal) is it best to have the thing hot or cold?

The operator's manual and service manual--neither one specifies, which
seems odd.

For this business an oil pump is really required as only about a cup of the
.75 quart capacity drains out by gravity via the under plug due to the tilt
of the engine.

Also, I find reading the oil level on the dipstick (round not flat)
incredibly difficult. The reddish ATF-Dextron-II-compatible goo just
doesn't show up. I tried lightly sanding the end of the dipstick thinking
that might help the oil to "stick" more visibly--barely helps. Why the heck
don't they have a dipstick you can read easily? Arg.

Also, given the small amount of oil the transmission requires, how precise
does one need to worry about being? Plus, since engine and tranny are
tilted, how accurately set are the dipstick marks? I'm thinking probably
not very, but I sure don't want to contribute to any problems, so I do the
best I can.

Thank You,
Best Regards,

Randy
