Hi Clay;
     I would suggest that you make fast to the strongest member available using the strongest method practical and then treat it as though it is too flimsy and always fasten to a deck cleat so IT takes all the strain.  The attachment in the locker is ONLY for preventing the loss of the bitter end while running out your rode. ( they don't call it that for nothing ; -)

By the way, if you don't mind me asking, how are people attaching the loose
end of their anchor rode inside the chain locker?  Mine was not attached to
anything when I bought it and there is nothing on the inside sturdy enough
to attach to...  any ideas?
