Just two more thoughts, while at the mast I always raise the back end of the boom with my topping lift before pulling in the clew reefing line (but don’t forget to slack it afterwards) and I replaced my reefing hook with a snap shackle so the tack never slips off the hook just as I start to tension the halyard. I have an old, used mainsail for an A30 with some repairs but certainly usable. We had a new main made about 5 years ago and the old one has been in my garage, high and dry ever since. If someone is in need it is available. Please contact at johnbrugeman at ameritech.net or cell 586-915-8569. Price is negotiable plus shipping.

Lot of good material in this thread.
Thanks for the warning regarding a #16 winch making it too easy to over
tension the reefing line.
Your comments, as well as those of Daniel Swords and Marcelo Gentinetta,
have got me thinking
about moving the main halyard to the mast, in place of on the cabin top.
As was mentioned, have
to go to the mast to set the ring on the reef hook.? If I could lower the
main from the mast, set the ring,
set the clew reefing line, and rehoist from the same location, it would
make life a bit easier.
Danie and I have the same idea regarding the use of a soft shackle to with
a dinghy block or a low
friction ring, in my case, to place both parts of the reefing line on the
same side of the sail.? As he mentions,
it keeps me from crunching the bunt of the sail as its reefed.
Expecting stronger winds later in the week, so there should be an
opportunity to try this out.
Now your making me wonder. Can the outhaul, rigged as a pair of double
blocks, can be too much as well?

Dear Albergers,
Started refinishing Constance in the Spring. Did the entire cockpit.
Sanded, filled with SystemThree QuikFair, two base coats of Interlux
primer, followed by three coats of Brightside. Redid the non-skid using
white KiwiGrip.
Happy with how the results are working out. No so happy about how easily
the new finish shows dirt and grime. What is in the air around Annapolis
that falls on the boat as some kind of black powder. The Brightside cleans
up nicely. The KiwiGrip is harder to get clean.
Heard of a new product this week called SoftSand Rubber. They have a
number of "case studies" including a Cape Dory 30 and an Alberg 29?

Anyone heard of or used this product?

We are in the flight pattern for BWI airport...the black stuff is jet
exhaust. You're breathing it too! Try Z-cleaner from Bacon's, it remove it
instantly and is harmless to the environment.
