[Public-List] Cracked Stern Tube - Laugh or Cry?

Gordon,

Could you tell us what the marina did regarding the stern tube?

I went looking to learn a bit about this, and remembered reading something
about it on lackeysailing.com. Ends up that what I remembered was the
stern tube
replacement on a Pearson Trident. The stern tube was removed. A new
fiberglass
tube epoxied into the deadwood. A cutlass bearing slid into the fiberglass
stern
tube and secured using a bit of polysulfide and two setscrews.

The description of the work done is spread over a few webpages
* about half way down
http://www.lackeysailing.com/archived/hattiemae/june09/62209.htm
* bottom paragraphs of
http://www.lackeysailing.com/archived/hattiemae/june09/62309.htm

Remember hearing form various sources that cutlass bearings and the rest
are tricky
"cause the stern tube might turn or twist and break its bond to the
deadwood".
Seems that won't be a problem in this Triton given the amount of epoxy
applied.
