[Public-List] Deck Hull Seal

Hmm, this has been sitting in my drafts folder...Hi Johnathan,I have a sneak path for a small amount of water when the port rail is buried. I'm pretty certain it's not the chain plates, stantion bases, or ports but I honestly can't say I've found it.The tabbing looks to be in good shape. My best guess is that it's the original Dolphinite. I'm not opposed to scraping out the old and replacing it with new Dolphinite. I'm wondering if butyl might be a good choice. My rigger suggested replacing it with thickened epoxy. I'm not sure what the down side of that would be but I tend to copy original unless I have a good reason. Oh course getting it clean enough for epoxy to bond might be tough.Regards,Greg

By the bow? By the cockit? Where? Some folks have ground down the outer few inches of the deckand the top few inches of the hull in order to put a couple layers offiberglass tape over the joint.  Its work and scratchy work at that, but the result is a very strong joint that cannot leak.On Tue, Sep 3, 2019 at 9:13 PM Greg via Public-List <public-list at lists.alberg30.org> wrote:Hi Folks,I need to redo my hull to deck seal. 1. I've been assuming that I need to drop the mast but thought I should confirm that. It would be a lot simpler if I don't need to.2. What sealant are folks using these days.3. Anything to look out for?Regards,Greg
