[Public-List] Public-List Digest, Vol 4062, Issue 1

My 2 QM15 Yanmar uses a right hand wheel(clockwise). The issue I have
with the description is Yanmar's recommendation to keep the trans in
neutral under sail. I have not seen that. Larger gears (Twin Disc on
Tugs specifically) do not want the wheels spinning without the main
engine running. It's a pressurized lubrication issue.
Paint a stripe on the shaft where the (2 bladed) prop is vertical and
jam the shifter in FWD and sailing is optimized with no wear on gear
bearings.
3 blade wheels are not possible to shield behind deadwood, but stopping
their spin I would think is still desirable.
Also, it seems to me by putting the gear in reverse when under sail
means the hydraulic pressure encourages the engine to run backwards.
