[Public-List] Dolor sailor on Alberg 30 made it to Hawaii, broken rudder

Depends on the boat and the wind. On the ketch I sailed on, you needed 
all 6 sails
up to make any kind of meaningful headway in winds under 15 knots. 
Apparently,
while the mizzen would come down in high winds, the staysail stayed up even
in a full hurricane. I was NOT on the boat then. The boat had been 
around the world
once and across the Pacific and back twice. I was on for one summer as 
crew to just
to Haida Gwaii and back, then another stint as mate down the Inside
Passage, plus a few day trips in Juan de Fuca. I saw some medium snotty 
weather,
but only heard stories about the really snotty weather. Which is fine by me.

The beauty being with a mizzenmast you can drop the main, leave the headsail and have nice steerability and headway.
