[Public-List] Shaft log, cutlass bearing housing replacement.

   George,
   Understood.  Before I finalize any decision regarding the housing/stern
   tube assembly I'll completely disassemble it and confirm the threads
   are mating correctly to my satisfaction.
   Thank-you for the input.

     threads.
     Note that the waterproofing depends on the seal of the cutless
     bearing
     housing (and its bolts) to the hull and to the sterntube, not on any
     seal of the sterntube to the hull as is often surmised. The caulk
     around
     the sterntube is to hold it in place as you unscrew the cutless
     bearing
     housing from it.
