[Public-List] Shaft log, cutlass bearing housing replacement.

David,

As I recall, the sterntube is straight threads, not tapered pipe threads.

Note that the waterproofing depends on the seal of the cutless bearing 
housing (and its bolts) to the hull and to the sterntube, not on any 
seal of the sterntube to the hull as is often surmised. The caulk around 
the sterntube is to hold it in place as you unscrew the cutless bearing 
housing from it.
