I bought a companionway mosquito net by Waterline Design. It completely covers my companionway opening and stays in place with a built-in heavily weighted border. It is very rugged and very easy to use and stays in place even in high winds and is a delight to use even when frequently passing in and out of the cabin. The price seemed high but it has lasted for several years. I bought mine for a 33” X 69” companionway. I think being oversized makes it easier to use.

We hold the bottom (aft) cockpit with an appropriately tight 1/4" 
seamstresses elastic and because the hatch is tapered, we use the same 
material that's probably 12 threads to the inch or thereabouts with at 
least a circumference and a half of the hatch, more if its windy. This 
works until it rains and then the hatch cover needs to be lifted over 
the louvered piece and a towel below that. The piece at the front needs 
to be pulled in, as quickly as possible. I usually hang it over the sink 
when its wet.
