We anchored in Tarpon Basin one night, on the Gulf side of Key Largo, then next day went thru Snake Creek Bascule Bridge
to Treasure Harbor Marina on Atlantic side of Plantation Key. Stayed there for about 1 month. That was in 2017, so don't know if they would have slips or not, still, for transients. Owner was selling the place.
Then down to Boot Key which is a great harbor, to Marathon City Marina (rec room, wifi, mail delivery, showers, laundry, group activites). Lot of live aboards, but only moorings... no slips. Then to Key West, stayed on mooring at City Marina for a few days (about a mile in dinghy to city dock, with showers, laundry) , then got a slip at Sunset Marina for couple months.. mostly live aboards there too. Used bus and bike to get downtown.

There's a mooring field at ft. Myers beach behind the mantazas bridge run
by city fair rates. Marinas there are expensive stay away from Moss marine.
