Thanks Gordon. I love your sense of humor and reality. Blue or purple
clouds have been observed above my boat on this issue. More may be
observed....David

Here’s how I go at stubborn fastenings.

Address the bolt or screw. Curse it, and set the terms for the coming
encounter; the terms must be simple and clear… three words... it
will lose... there is no other outcome it can expect but ultimate and
total defeat.

Underline your declaration by fitting a screw driver in it’s head
and giving it a very sharp rap with a hammer. This may serve to
dislodge corrosion in the threads, but you and the bolt will both know
the rap on the head is your notification the struggle has begun.

If you are going at the nut end of the fastening, use the best
fitting wrench you can find, apply even pressure feeling for that
first sign of yield. Apply heat, alternate heat and torquing. The
fastening is going to lose this struggle… never lose sight of that
fact.

The power of steady repetitive simple curses, versus complex curses
involving creative invention is not completely understood; so use
both.

The fastening will lose the battle. Keep that in mind. Never let any
doubt whatsoever enter your thoughts.

When the fastening yields, or breaks, howl with a full-throated roar
of triumph for the benefit of other fastenings who may be awaiting the
outcome. They too will know they will be defeated, when their turn
comes. You are the predator, you are the ultimate victor. They will
lose. Do not forget that.

 Penetrating oil can help too.

said nut in question. I only know he can not get the nut to budge. I
suggested what he might do to get the nut off and salvage the bolt.
But if the bolt can be sacrificed, and easliy replaced after
disassembly, then more options come into play. What say you David?

bolt/stud/rod that the nut is threaded on, so if you apply that fix
often enough, you'll also have to replace said bolt/stud/rod (which
will inevitably turn out to be awkwardly situated, and seized in
something else for good measure)
