[Public-List] Nut splitters

PB blaster or Kroil penetrating oil liberally applied every few hours for a day or two is very effective. Kroil smells better but both are very effective. After several hours of soaking, fit a wrench to the nut and give it taps with a hammer, in both directions. The vibration of the hammer taps helps to drive in the penetrating ol. Apply more penetrant, wait. The oil is slowly creeping in and dissolving the corrosion. If it moves a little, work it back the other way to clear the threads. The hammer taps on the wrench are very important for both the vibration moving the penetrant and for breaking the molecules of corroded metal. Be patient. If you don’t get it off this weekend, break it off and come up with a plan B for replacing bolt.
