my understanding - and I was feeling around back there is putting
another rod in would be impossible. I think that the three bolts that
I can get at are sufficient to support the pump. Better to split the
nut and put a new one on later. I also think this may be easier said
than done.

 A Dremel tool is a lot likelier to cut into the threads of the
bolt/stud/rod that the nut is threaded on, so if you apply that fix
often enough, you'll also have to replace said bolt/stud/rod (which
will inevitably turn out to be awkwardly situated, and seized in
something else for good measure)
