[Public-List] Blowers

   Greg,

On Quest I have a diesel so my blower is being used for engine bay
cooling and the 4” hose terminates near the top of the engine rather
the bilge. The hose is attached to an 4” inline blower mounted on the
inside of the port cockpit bulkhead accessed via a cutout that is used
for access behind the engine. The hose then runs to the port dorade
   next to the lazerette hatch.

I found the blower to be quite powerful - more than I needed - and
loud. It also stated that it was not designed for “continuous duty”
probably because it was working pretty hard and drawing about 5 amps.
I purchased a cheap 12v rheostat on Amazon ([1]DC Motor Speed
Controller Universal DC 12V 24V 10A Electronic Stepless Speed Regulator
Switch for Car Truck Fan Heater Control) and ran it through a two
position running light switch on the instrument panel. The first switch
position runs through the rheostat and the fan speed can be dialed down
a by the little dial on the rheostat. The second switch position has
the fan running 100%, useful perhaps to temporarily remove gas fumes.
This setup works well and is much quieter running at about 50%-60% and
drawing less than 2 amps. I figure it might also extend the life of
the blower which was relatively cheap compared to the very robust - and
expensive continuous duty fans. As an aside I also purchased a cheap
little digital thermometer to monitor engine bay temperature and can
adjust the fan speed as necessary to account for higher ambient
   temperatures or heavier engine load.

   Afternoon
Wondering what people use for their bilge blowers and where do they
   mount
them? Mine is in the aft lazerette (attwood) and competes in volume
   level
when the engine (A4) is running. Wanting to make it much more quiet if
   possible.
