[Public-List] Sealing coaming boards to the deck

Greg,
Thin foam strips, as you described, work well. If it has peel-off adhesive on one side, it is easy to position where you want it. The big advantage is that the coaming boards are thereafter easy to remove and replace when painting or staining is needed.
