[Public-List] Tiller to Rudder Connection

Folks,

Our boats have a number of miles under their keels. Over that period of
time, the H-shaped metal piece that connects the tiller to the rudder and
the metal piece at the top of the rudder shaft wear. Over time, the system
develops an amount of play.

Seems that we might be able to eliminate the play by shaping the end of the
tiller to match the width of the metal piece at the top of the rudder shaft
and attaching the tiller to that metal piece with two pieces of bar stock,
say 1/8" thick, 1" or so wide, and some 6+" long. The aft end of each
piece would be drilled for the pivot in the rudderhead and drilled for
bolts to attach the tiller.

Anyone try this?
