Well this ended up being wonderfully informative. Not any easier to make 
any decisions, but informative lol. Gravitating back towards manual. I 
think Mike M and Gord, with able assist from Stephen, are closest to 
matching my needs, but it was all useful. I have not ruled out electric 
yet at this point.
Such an even spread of opinion, it's liable to come down to what is 
available.
I don't see anybody has gone with 1/4" chain, 1/2" rode, so that is 
useful input. 40' of 3/8" is flat out big; I thought my 5/16 was on the 
excessive side.
I think my next step is visit the boat, make cardboard template of 
foredeck, and see how it all looks.
