    Thanks for the book info. I do very much like Hiscock, but will see
if I can find those you mentioned.
    Yes, my Bomar is dogged from inside. By reaching through a hole in
one of the sail lockers I can just fasten one of the clamps - necessary
in heavy weather. Bomar makes about a 12 x 12" hatch for $99, at West
Marine's price. I expect I will install an 8" dia. locking deck plate,
another Bomar, over the rudderpost. It is $20 at West Marine.
    I am exploring just the self-tending jib you describe. I'll let you
know what I find.
