[alberg30] Rudder and Backing up

John, The A30 is my third Alberg boat, and I suspect the backing is true of 
most full keel boats.  I've found that the only way I can back in the 
direction I want is when the wind is blowing straight off the bow.  I think 
you will find that in most cases the stern will  turn into the wind.  If 
there is no wind, then you can put the rudder over hard, and at a slow engine 
speed the half of the prop that has clear water will eventualy turn the boat, 
something like a twin engine power boat.  Aside from that, check the wind 
direction, and expect to back into it.  Another choice is to have the crew 
push HARD against a pileing as she comes out of the slip., to shove the bow
