Lee,

I replaced the port lights in Carina Vela with 1/4 inch Lexan and had new
port retainers made from 1/4 inch. 316 passivated stainless steel.
The stainless frames were cut from sheet stock thus eliminating any welded
joints. I wouldn't have any issues with the frames or the Lexan in off
shore conditions. The cost of the port retainers and a complete set of
chain was $1025.00.

Hi Greg,
In this book I'm reading, about the Vertue 35, there is a diagram for the
gallows placement. The Vertue's main is roller furling, so the mainsheet
is
attached to a rolling bale at the very end of the boom, like ours. The
gallows appears to be fitted about one foot or so forward of the end of the
boom. Can't see how it WOULD'NT catch the mainsheet on a tack or a jibe.
Let's hear from people who have them, please.

Second Question: Has anyone replaced the aluminum frames and doghouse
windows
with 1/2 " or heavier Lexan, the Lexan overlapping the window hole, and
bolting the Lexan to the cabin side? All in an effort to get a stronger
doghouse window for offshore work, of course.
Thanks friends,
