I guess there are many schools of thought with respect running the carb dry.
I have done booth and and found no difference. Yes, I also fill the fuel
tank
but add only a lead additive. In the spring I will add a water dispersant
such as isopropyl alcohol.

   One thing I have always done with gas engines, ashore & afloat, is to
shut off the gas valve and run them until the carburetor is dry - saves
letting it gum up over the winter layup. Also, I fill the fuel tanks to
the brim and use diesel or gas treatment like Sta-Bil which helps keep
the gas in the tank from going stale.
