Had a Cape Dory 25 with an Evenrude 9.9 Long shaft electric start with an alternator mounted in the stern well (what would be the lazerette). It was very noisy couldn't run with the hatch shut or it would overheat), had little torque for going against a chop, was hard to start and was a serious 2 man chore to lift straight up out of the well. Even with the long shaft, if the boat pitched, the prop would cavitate like crazy. One of the reasons I sold the boat was because I couldn't wait to get an inboard.
