[Alberg30] Marine Alternator search

I am looking for info leading to replacing the alternator on my westerbeke 10-2 diesel engine in my sailboat.
How can I find out what I have and what the hookup wires are for? Can I replace it with an off the shelf automotive alternator? Looking for sources and prices.
