Yes, The batteries are located under the Cabin Sole Just forward of the
Companionway Steps/Ladder.

Depending on the age of your boat there may be direct access to the blige
through these compartments.
On my newer boat(#458) - due to liners, there is only water access to the
compartment from above.
In the Older boat(#57) there is access from everywhere. I.E. water can come
up from below in breaches/drains in the bilge or from above when water comes
in around the covers. By leaving somthing like the stuffing box on a bigger
drip cycle, wate comes in from the bottom, and if let to go long enough can
get in even through battery boxes. Actually the water in the most recent
case got up just below the bunks. Whoops, lots of cleaning w/ rags.

In the newer boats it will take the same amount of time to put water into
the boat however the water will(Should depending on the # of holes drilled)
only flood from above.

Either way a bad throughhull, or a looser stuffing box will accelerate this
problem. The loose box was caused by trying to andicipate the drip when in
gear & when sitting. Unfortunately I didn't gauge the drip right.
