[Alberg30] Mast dimensions

Hi there -

This is a subject I daydream about a fair bit. I'd give the boat a lighter
tapered mast - and reap a huge increase in performance and looks without a
strength penalty. The excessive weight at the masthead is a particular
pet peave of mine. Of course if you live in a place where maintaining the
boats' status as a one-design is an issue, you shouldn't do this.

In particular, I would choose the tapered mast made for the Abbott 33
(availabe from Abbot Boats of Sarnia Ontario) It is a little taller than
our rigs... but is much lighter, stronger and set up for 7/8 - actually what
Alberg may have intended for our boats before Kurt Hansen economized the
construction. Being able to bend the mast to flatten the main is a valuable
thing and would improve our boats' ability to claw off in heavy air.

Sorry if this is sacraligeous!
