Hi Roger - 

Funny you should mention the lazerette... I know of two professionals in the
marine business who have accidentally locked themselves in A30 cockpit
lockers.  If the lid falls shut while you are right down in there the hasp
can fall over the pad eye effectively sealing you in until someone comes
along.  It makes a funny story but not nice on a hot day!  One of the
occurences involved the guy spending many hours in there until his brother
came looking for him. I have removed the eyes from my lids and use clam
cleats and short pieces of line to secure the lids shut.
