compression can be slightly improved by Marvel Mystery Oil or even better
is Sea Foam which is an incredible penetrating as well as lubricating oil.
100x better that the old MMO. If you cannot find it then use MMO.

Also if you can get your hands on a compression tester check the cylinders
and see if there is a specific compression issue/loss. If so you could
simply need a new head gasket. Not a difficult project but one that does
take some time and requires that the head be milled to assure proper
refit.
Again much cheaper than replacement.
