   If the engine will run at all, once you remove the stud
nuts. start it up and let the engine lift off the head.
Sometimes turning the dead engine over will lift the head.
But sometimes not. Ford developed a sort of hole cutter
that fit down over the studs in aluminum heads to cut away
enough material to allow removal of the (spoiled) head.
Still, I remember watching in 1942, mechanics in a Lincoln
dealership in Portland, Maine, chisel off the heads of my
dad's Lincoln V-12. - Gordon White
