Hi there - 

Your stanchion bases are cast bronze, and the trace of silver you see is the
remains of the chrome plating that was the thing to do in the '60's.

I would recommend taking off the remains of the chrome and keeping the
'salty' green - to my mind that is the badge of THE REAL THING in yacht
gear.

You could have them re-plated if you like the chrome look.
