[Public-List] PNW A-30 rendezvous

Not me Randy...I organized enough gatherings in my time...I agree it is a
hassle to do the customs thing though. Last summer I sailed directly to
Bellingham from my dock. Arrived at the Customs dock and called. The officer
asked me what I was doing there and how I got there. I explained that I had
sailed straight and this was my point of entry and I was obeying the signs
by calling and providing passport numbers for my wife and I etc. I was
informed that Bellingham was not a designated port of entry (this was new
information to me as my books stated that it was) and the officer proceeded
to dress me down on the phone, told me to return to the vessel and wait
until he arrived. Upon arrival he inspected the boat and informed me that I
would receive a letter from Homeland Security and if this were to happen
again my boat would be confiscated and perhaps more. Suffice to say that I
was contrite and offered my hand in thanks which resulted in the officer
jumping back as if I had the plague...Not to be outdone, I had a similar
experience on retuning to Canada even though I have a CanPass (similar to
Nexus)...We may have to meet on an extended holiday during the summer. Keep
in touch.

Glenn,
I suspect that behind your comments must be an offer to organize such.
Or was that Brian?
I also have never made the BC gatherings-- I need a couple of days to
get there, go through customs.... (The NEXUS pass, actually, is a big help
with customs these days. For $50/five years you can pass much more quickly
to and from Canada by auto or by boat.)
Perhaps some weekend (late fall? Winter?) at Sucia or Spencer Spit or
Blind Bay? Casual and if you show up you show up would be nice....

Hey Glen:

Yes - a rendezvous either in the San Juans's or perhaps Port Browing on
Pender. I have not been able to make the formal A30 rendezvous during the
past few years because it has been scheduled on a weekend and a location
that usually takes me a couple of days to get to providing the weather is
good. I have been attending Vega reunions (both US and Canadian friends for
several years) on both sides of the border. Last year in Fishermans's Bay. I
ran aground at the entrance on a falling tide.
Anyway...if you are up to planning an informal get together I'm interested.
