I installed mine in the starboard locker under the settee, main
cabin, about a foot and a half aft of the bulkhead between the
hanging locker and the main cabin, and about 7" into the locker. I
chose this location as a compromise, keeping in mind the
manufacturer' s recommendations.

For a full-keel sailboat, the recommended location for an in-hull
transducer is just ahead of the keel, slightly to one side;
unfortunately that's not possible on an A30 because the hull just
ahead of the keel is too thick on the centre line, and off to the
side as well as on the centre line, the deadrise angle of the hull
is too steep (here you run into the second requirement-- that the
deadrise angle should not exceed 22°).
So you want it further aft (where the fiberglass is not as thick) and
as close to the centre line as possible so that you find a mounting
surface fairly close to the horizontal; at the same time, you don't
want it so close to the keel that its beam could be blocked by the
keel. That doesn't leave you much choice, and judging from the other
responses, in-hull transducers in A30s usually end up in either
locker under a main cabin settee, aft of the head bulkhead (on the
port side), or the hanging locker (on the starboard side).
You must also make sure that there are no void/bubbles in the
fiberglass--you can check that during the recommended pre-test with
the transducer in a bag of water over the chosen spot. That should
not be a problem with the A30 hull.
By the way, a few years ago, mineral oil was the liquid of choice. It
is still an option, but these days manufacturers recommend Propylene
glycol (non-toxic antifreeze/coolant--that's the pink one). I don't
know why the switch.
