[Public-List] dye-penetrant - NDT engineering inspection

Regarding wire replacement, I researched wire life a couple of years ago and found manufacturers generally recommend wire replacement every seven years. However several riggers on San Francisco bay have said they commonly test offshore and transpac boat standing rigging at 10 to 12 years, with no issues. Occasionally 15 year old wire is good for offshore, but lots of people replace around the 10-12 year mark. Obviously lots of variables with rigging.

I rerigged completely four years ago using sta- loc fittings everywhere. Have been supremely happy with no more ( or very little) opportunity for swage failure. Now all I worry about are hooks in the wire... Which I don't expect for years to come.

Particularly if it recourse to legal remedy. We all live in an increasingly litigious societies.
