Mike, 

What I noticed most was that the spark plugs were fine @ 5K then 10K and then again @15K miles.  Before electronic ignition the electrodes on the plugs were badly worn @ 5K. In fact the maintenance interval for 1967 was to replace the plugs @ 5K.

Our 1971 VW Super Beetle Convertible has never run better since I changed to 
electronic ignition...it has 176K miles on it.
