[Public-List] Problem with Universal M4-30

Eric,
Get with the mfg. and locate the manual. Better yet get to a dealer who can provide a blow-up diagram of the engine to determine if the plug seals the cooling system or an oil gallery. Does the plug screw in? Screw in would be oil. Press in would be cooling system.

The freeze plug is designed to pop out if the coolant freezes, thus no threads. (Sometimes due to age or corrosion the freeze plug will loosen and fall out on its own.)

Oil pressure is far greater than coolant system pressure and requires a threaded plug to prevent oil leakage. (It is very unlikely that the tapered screwed in oil plug would loosen itself and fall out.) It is possible but not likely. Did you have small leaks from this area before the major oil leak?

There is the same type of plug on the oil system, what I suspect is that there was water in the oil that have boiled out causing the the plug to release the pressure. I will do an oil change this weekend and inspect the oil for any trace of water. If there is, the next step will be to locate the source.
