I installed a new fiberglass stern tube on #414 myself. Removed the engine
but not the fuel tank to be able to access.
had to enlarge the hole in the hull to fit the bigger stern tube, also
installed a new dripess shaft seal.
a little bit scary to drill holes under the waterline but not really
difficult.
spent just a few hundred.
I doubt the stern tube is cracked. it is probably leaking between the
bronze stern tube and the hull. you can probably stop the leak with caulk
under the cutlass housing. but I still prefer the brand new fiberglass tube.
feel free to email me if you have any questions.
